Protecting Your Carpet, Upholstery & Mattresses

Carpet protection helps to prolong the life and appearance of your carpet and upholstery by protecting against everyday soiling, spills, wear and sun fade.
This is achieved through the application of a protective film that binds around the carpet or upholstery fibres, making it easier to soak up spills before they cause permanent damage, and generally making your carpet or upholstery more resilient to wear.
For this reason, carpet protection is commonly applied after manufacture, helping to protect carpets in transit and throughout the period of any warantee. However, protection does wear off over time and should be reapplied as necessary.

Protection against spills

Carpet protection prevents spills from penetrating into the carpet or upholstery fibres, making it easy to soak the spill up and greatly reducing the chance of permanent damage.

You may notice this, as once carpet protection has been applied, spills may bead up the carpet fibres or sit on the surface rather than soaking down and spreading across the fabric.

This helps to keep your carpet stain-free and looking great for longer.

Protection against soiling

Carpet protection prevents everyday soiling including dust, allergens, hair and pet dander from penetrating and becoming trapped in the carpet fibres. This in turn, means that soiling is much easier to remove and your regular vacuum maintenance will be more efficient.

This also helps to minimise wear and damage to your carpet, as you will be able to remove more abrasive soiling with your domestic vacuum cleaner and prevent these abrasive particles from scratching and damaging the fibres over time.

Protection against wear and sun fade

Carpet protection will help to minimise the permanent damage from wear caused by movement across the fibres (especially in heavy foot traffic areas) as this movement will wear away the protective film rather than the carpet fibre itself. It will also help prevent sun fade as it prevents the UV rays from infiltrating into and damaging the fibres.

Ultimately, this helps to minimise damage to your carpet as the protective film is is damaged before your carpet is!

Application

Carpet protection can be applied to all types of carpet, upholstery and mattresses and is most effective when applied after a steam clean. This is because excess soiling will have been removed and the fibres will be standing up, allowing the protective film to bind evenly to the fibres.

For this reason, we recommend that you have protection applied to your carpet, upholstery and mattresses at the same time as their annual steam clean.
